DEVIL’S WALL, BOGOSLOVEC

The Devil's Wall is located about 2 km southeast of the top of Sveti Jovanski Rid and about 250 m north of the river Bregalnica, at an altitude of about 250 m. The area in which it is located is relatively poorly accessible.
The wall stretches in an east-west-northwest direction, about 300-400 m. long. The outcrop starts from the village of Grlishte at the southwestern foot of Tiski Vrv (747 m), continues for about 260 m to the west, to the village of Plavishte and then turns to the northwest along the western foot of Mount Bogoslovec. The rocky formations are most distinct on both sides of Grliški Dol, that is, 50 m from the Bregalnica river on its right side. On the eastern side of the gully, the outcrop is about 100 m long and in the central part is almost completely eroded to the base. On the west side of the gully, the outcrop is somewhat longer and lower. The height of the Devil's Wall is variable depending on the preservation and the intensity of erosion, and on average it is 2-5 m with the highest height of 11 m.

Even though the terrain is difficult and inaccessible, we still offer you a circular bike path where you need to be carefull, while there are parts where you have to go on foot.

It is difficult, they say, to reach it on foot, and the bringing of the huge stones weighing up to four tons required both the appropriate technique and the appropriate skills of the builders. In fact, say the defenders of this thesis, it is one of the elements that make this Wall mystical.

STORY ABOUT THE LOCATION/REGION:

There are various points of view regarding the origin of this monument in every respect. Part of the science claims that it is a natural phenomenon, that is, that the wall was created by erosion of the surrounding land. According to them, the “author” of this Wall is the tireless builder – nature, which here, as scarsely anywhere, has created a masterpiece.

Contrary to science, there is a belief among the people of this region that the building is the work of supernatural forces, i.e. the devil, which is why they gave it the name – Devil’s Wall.

According to the legend, the devil made a bet with God that he would build a wall in one night and divert Bregalnica over the hill to Ovche Pole and flood it. That same night the devil began to build the Wall, and he did so with such speed that there was no doubt that he would accomplish his purpose. God, after seeing that the threat was becoming a reality and wanting to stop him in his intention, woke up a cock that crowed ahead of time, so the devil did not manage to complete his idea.

Also, among the people, in a slightly more ancient form, there is a belief that this wall is the work of extraterrestrials and as a fact there are stories according to which in the last five decades fifty UFOs were allegedly observed over this wall.

Among gold seekers, there is a story according to which this wall dates back to the Roman period, that is, it hides a tunnel with an incredibly large treasure. That tunnel is also drawn on certain topographical maps that are sold to naive treasure seekers by skilled scammers from the surrounding countries.
