KUBRINOVO, LJUBOJNO AND ALL THE BEAUTY OF RESEN
Prespa is located on the very border between Macedonia, Albania and Greece. This area is considered an ecological entity of global importance because here you can meet a variety of biotopes - lakes, mountains and forests that have exclusive, unique characteristics. Lakes Mala Prespa and Great Prespa are among the oldest lakes in Europe and therefore a large number of endemic species can be found there; as well as the only colony of the Great White Pelican in the European Union. The region is considered a significant reservoir of biodiversity and natural production. The altitude (850 meters), lush vegetation and hot summers with cool nights make the climate suitable for vacation. Two national parks - Galichica and Pelister - are spread over its territory.
The culture in Prespa dates back to the Neolithic. Via Egnatia passed through the valley during the Roman Empire. Prespa was the capital of the powerful Samuel Kingdom founded in the 10th century. Rich ancient Roman and early Christian testimonies have been preserved, as well as examples of traditional architecture. 130 archaeological sites from different periods of the development of material culture have been registered in the area of Prespa. In Prespa there are 95 churches and monastery complexes, as well as 1024 icons.
The villages of Brajchino, Ljubojno and Dolno Dupeni are recognizable by their traditional village architecture; with houses built of stone that still reflect the spirit of a bygone era.
Prespa is characterized by long-term solar radiation with over 100 sunny days throughout the year.
KUBRINOVO
The church dedicated to St. George the Great Martyr in Kurbinovo is known for its most beautiful, original frescoes. Especially after the fresco of Angel Gabriel from Kurbinovo. We all see the image of Angel Gavril from Kurbinovo every day, but we don't pay attention to it, that very fresco is printed on the 50 denar banknote.
The beautiful fresco painting is painted on the walls of the small church dedicated to Saint George. The church is located above the village of Kurbinovo, next to the Prespa Lake, at the foot of Baba Planina.
Painting of the church began on April 25, 1191, and the three masters whose hands painted the frescoes are unknown.
Over the centuries, this church was subject to several damages, and the repairs that were carried out somehow changed its appearance.
In the church there are well-preserved frescoes that can be classified among the most beautiful achievements of Byzantine art of the 12th century. Conceptually, the painting is arranged in three zones: in the first zone, individual representations of saints are painted, in the second, the cycle of great holidays, and in the third, prophets.
LJUBOJNO AND BRAJCHINO
Ljubojno is located at an altitude of about 920 meters and covers an area of about 13 square kilometers. Ljubojno is about 28 kilometers from the municipal center of Resen, and about sixty kilometers from Bitola and Ohrid.
According to folklore, Ljubojno got its name from the word ``love``. A long time ago, a boy and a girl, who lived in two neighboring settlements, fell in love. Due to the bad neighborly relations of the residents of the settlements, the young people were not allowed to marry each other. However, they still decided to merry and run away together. They settled near the river and lived happily here. Later, other families moved to that place of lovers and, because of that, they named the settlement Ljubojno.
Brajcino is located a little higher, at an altitude of 1000 meters. Thanks to Brajchinska Reka and the fantastic forest, you will remember what it means to breathe clean and fresh air.
And what you experienced in Ljubojno continues here. Narrow streets, with big houses, beautiful yards and flowers. A few authentic restaurants that you can't miss. Brajchino has also fantastic cycling routes and several marked hiking trails.
