Bekirlija, Honeyland

The village is located in the edges of the southwestern part of Ovche Pole; southwest of the municipal center of Lozovo. According to the last population census in Macedonia from 2020, the village has no permanent residents and is abandoned. ATIDJE and the movie ``HONEY LAND``
Atidze lived all her life in Bekirlia, together with her mother who died on January 28, 2020. She took care of her while she spent her last four years of her life in bed. She grew up and lived in the same house, with her family - her mother, father and the three brothers. They have always raised bees. The older brother taught her to collect honey from bees that do not live in hives or boxes that we are used to see, but they find home on their own, in rocks, in trees, as can be seen in the movie. She learned how to work with bees as a child and has been doing it for almost 40 years. As a child, she was afraid of them; but ovevr time, she started helping and that's how she learned and afterwords she’s no longer afraid of them. Once, she says, a whole basket fell on her neck while she was removing them from the rock, in order to move them into the basket. She was stung by many bees, but luckily nothing happened to her. She took out the thorns and washed herself with cold water and that was it. Getting stung by a bee is very healthy, she says. It's real medicine and you don't need injections. And the honey she produces is a true one, pure honey and is a real medicine. Those who eat this kind of honey don’t need any medicine. She says she makes her own remedies with honey for various health problems. For a cold or if you have a sore throat, a teaspoon of honey in warm water with a little lemon, if any, is enough.
Atidze has never been married and she has no children. When Hussein and Ljutvie and their seven children stationed themselves near her house, she was glad to have company and became especially close to one of the girls and one of the boys, whom she begins to teach about bees. And the members of the film crew became like her family. At first she thought they would film her and leave, but they stayed for three years.
