Galicnik and the beauties of Miachija

Galicnik — a village in Mavrovo and Rostushe Municipality, in the Mala Reka area. It is located on the slopes of Mount Bistra, in the center of the Mijaks region. Galicnik is a tourist attraction due to its authentic architecture, rich cultural heritage and amazing landscapes.
The oldest information about the creation of Galicnik dates back to the 10th century and early 11th century.
It is located on the slopes of Mount Bistra, in the heart of the region of Mijaks, in the area of Mala Reka, 16 km. from Mavrovo and Mavrovsko Lake; 12 km. from the ski center ``Zare Lazareski``.

INFORMATION ABOUT OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

The Chicheov monastery has ideal conditions for cycling and hiking trails. The Klepa peak (altitude of 1150 m.) is near the monastery. There is a hiking trail that is properly marked by the environmental group ``Green Power`` from Veles.

TRAVEL RECOMMENDATIONS:

There is only one road to Galicnik and unfortunately there isn’t any shortcut to get there.
If you are coming from Skopje or any other city from Eastern Macedonia, you will have to drive along the highway Tetovo - Gostivar and head towards the ski center Mavrovo.
When you enter the national park ``Mavrovo``, you will drive to Mavrovi Anovi, then continue straight and the MOST IMPORTANT thing is to turn off at the dam - on the left, i.e. cross the dam. There is a sign in front of the dam, indicating that you must turn left for Galicnik
Whether it is domestic customers or foreigners, we must mention that there is one BIG TRAP. If you are driving with navigation, there is a GPS point placed in the village of Selce, which says that it is the shortest way to Galicnik, and many of you will probably take that route. It is a huge problem, because it is true that you can theoretically reach Galicnik from there, but the road is muddy and not suitable for ordinary motor vehicles or city jeeps. Only large off-road vehicles can pass there.
All those coming from Ohrid, with particular importance we remind you to avoid that road.
From Ohrid to Galicnik, the drive takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Description of the path

From Galicnik you can climb one of the surrounding peaks, such as Medenica (2163m) and Govedarnik.

The peak of Medenica can be climbed from 2 directions: 1) from the village of Galicnik, and 2) from the locality called Sheremetnica, which is located on the road to the village of Galicnik. The path from both directions is marked with red and white markings, with road signs having been placed. The average time for crossing or climbing to the top is about 2h 30 min.
